Hooray For Earth have begun their sojourn in the European continent. Honestly, with all of the debris flying over the intense BBC1 love we’re on the receiving (and giving) end of at the moment, it’s nigh implausible to even imagine that this won’t be the biggest, most defining moment of the band’s career to date. I can’t explain to you without going full jeremiad on here the sheer pride we’re experiencing. We’ve done had these boys backs for some time now; it’s a fucking mitzvah to see a band evolve and gain traction in the way bands used to. We’re on the steep grade to that mufuckin zenith now, son. Hire a sherpa if yer tryna keep up; this gondola is stuntin.

POINT OF GO VINYL ARRIVES, NOEL DJs GAMER WET DREAM

Today in the post we were so fortunate to receive the debut full-length from our Oxford yardies, Jonquil. Ten big ole fat boxes crammed full of pure virgin vinyl.

In addition, Noel of Hooray For Earth will be DJing a super rad Killscreen party with Tim Sweeney of DFA-fame. The party is in San Francisco, so for those of you who feel that the Gold Coast dunget no love from Dovecote or Hooray For Earth, here’s a one-off of love that you can enjoy in whatever way you please!

SKI LODGE TO RECORD IN NEW PALTZ BARN

Coming off of a very successful debut EP which we re-released, Ski Lodge will be touring and recording a full-length. This is a most intriguing story. Never before had we signed a band off of a demo submission. We’ve all grown to love this band and are totally thrilled with our decision to sign them. In early March we’ll be sending them to New Paltz, NY, an ass-shatteringly beautiful town not far from the Hudson. They’ll be working with Kevin McMahon (Real Estate, Titus Andronicus, Swans, The Walkmen and more). We are bereft of words to capture the excitement we’re feeling. Kevin records in this insane converted barn, where the band will also be staying, hopefully enjoying cured meats and fromages aplentee. Cheers to the deluge of good news we’ve been enjoying!

Guten tag und wie gehts, mein Orangensäft! Today we have a neue welle of news for you. Germany, particularly Musik Express, is in love with Hooray For Earth. The often revisited video for “True Loves” was posted as one of Stephan Rehm’s (ME editor) three favorite current videos. Additionally, an editor, curiously of the same name as the aforementioned, wrote a piece on the record as a whole. They’ll be delighted to know that the record is, in fact, coming out in two and a half weeks in Europe.

Hooray For Earth will be touring in the UK and France in two weeks. Check our Tours section in the next few days for confirmed dates!

SPINNER VIDEO OF THE DAY GOES TO… JONQUIL

Allo friends and Good Wednesday. Today, the “It’s My Part” video, which I sneezed toward you a few days back, has been named Video of the Day on AOL Spinner. It’s an incredible joy to watch this band’s music take off and be showered with the recognition it deserves. There’s so much ecstasy, even in the moments of youthful dejection and introspection. If you knew the boys in Jonquil (maybe you do…?), you would be as contented as I am to see this type of response to their new songs. Their music is, by all accounts, an exact replication of their daily stance on life. The optimism and genuflection at the feet of daily goings-on lends a sweetness and earnestness to the whole shape of the band. It’s their part, they ‘gon play it how they want (which happens to be incredible genuinely).

Ey, so… I’m not going to stream them for you or anything like that. The news, though, is that Noel has put pen to ink and guitar to PC and the boys will be headed into the studio with a few familiar faces to cut these rough-hewn diamonds into center-mounted jewels of great splendor. Dates are forthcoming, but you can don your chapeaux d’anticipation for it is truly real and imminent.

Additionally, we have this full-quirky “auto-interview” with Konbini, an online culture and lifestyle publication with a mad Francy way of presenting content. I’m really wild about this and think it sheds a light on the side of Noel we all love most. Convinced he filmed it under the covers, too. “Hey, laaaaaaydeeeez”. Scope these vibes, my space angels.

“IT’S MY PART” VIDEO PREMIERE

Now that the Superbowl has bought the farm, and football is over til end of next Summer I feel that I may finally have your undivided attention. Jonquil, our Oxford, UK outfit, has released a video premiere for “It’s My Part”, the second single off of their forthcoming album Point of Go. The video is phenomenal. Playful, poignant, featuring a really striking starlet. Most striking, though, (and I know you’ll agree) is the pepperoni pizza pie spinning on the platter of a turntable. The ‘zza is cut into ‘lil J-O-N-Q-U-I-L letters, and interspersed throughout the video are shots of the pizza with a pentagram on it. An homage to, among other things, this most amazing of all-ever Google reviews. Many other notables, including a mechanical bull. All in all a very “Yankee-friendly” music video!

LIVE FAST, DIE YOUNG

Bad girls do it well. It’s inevitable; This needs to be discussed. Some of us maintained a vigil during the monsoon of vitriol that rained on M.I.A. about a year back, quietly ruminating on the doleful lack of foresight it must have taken to deem Maya’s actions (twitter beef and brassy online presence) and general stance objectionable. Girl is clearly unhinged. But how could anyone sound in mind estimate that she’d gone off the deep end for good? The bitch who gave us the line “All I wanna do is/BANG BANG BANG BANG COCK CHING/Take your money” will be around until she chooses not to be. She’s arcing at a relevance that’s difficult to describe. A Plutonic indifference, laziness even. Do you have any fucking idea how special a person you have to be to work this fucking hard, succeed and STILL seem like your in deep fucking orbit?

So many things to discuss in this video. The upholstery in the car. The Desert drifting realness. Freak stuntin’ de cars. Rubbery choreography. Its wild uplift finally beheads the notion of ‘Swag’. Fuck what you’ve imagined that word to mean. Freeze this shit in amber. And the director’s name is Romain. Lettuce all take the weekend to chew on this.
