Yesterday while we were in the midst of sorting out our XL trojan problems (turns out we had, like, 16 trojans in our backend!) The Fader premiered a SSION remix by Teengirl Fantasy‘s Nick Weiss. This remix rules and is just the beginning of the deluge of bonus material and amazing extras we have coming at you around the release of Bent.

JONQUIL’S VIDEO FOR “RUN” PREMIERES

This gorgeous, gem of a music video for Jonquil’s “Run” was premiered today by Interview Magazine .

The stop-motion video features some incredibly cool cinematography, technicolor spheres, a siren clad in all-black who seems maybe to be controlling the universe itself. The video is an accompaniment to a song that some of you are already familiar with; “Run” is the most directly poppy song from their recently-released full-length, Point of Go. “Run” is a poignant, resoundingly arresting, devastatingly beautiful song. Enough daps cannot possibly be given to Interview Magazine, whose exceptional layout, art direction and aesthetic make everything look just that much more resplendent! We love them. Enjoy it now so that you can say you beat your friends to it.

Additionally, though this semi-defies the notion of ‘exclusive premiere’, the video can be seen over at NME.com.

WISE BLOOD BAND OF THE DAY APP FEATURE

Band of the Day App is quickly becoming one of our favorite, anonymous lateral allies. That fam loves our fam, and seems to almost holistically support our aesthetic. Today’s Mega-Millions winner is Wise Blood with “Darlin’ You’re Sweet”, which has long been one of my favorite Wise Blood songs. Feel this shit.

And here is a stream of “Darlin’” in the event that you’re too laconic in this sweltering piss-mist that seems to be redefining BK to go on over to the BOTDA and give em a lil traffic.

THE L MAGAZINE “8 BANDS YOU NEED TO HEAR” JUMPOFF

Ski Lodge has been cleaning up recently, racking up a Band of The Day App feature, holding the entire sold-out Mercury Lounge crowd captivated through their whole set on Tuesday, and yesterday being written up as No. 1 of The L Magazine’s “Bands You Need to Hear 2012″ article. The band is really picking up steam, and with the added excitement of beginning to contact producers (jah, we’ve got a cornucopia of tricks up our sleeves) about doing the full-length record, well, we’re just up to our chins in excited anticipation.

The L Magazine may garner a great deal of its clout from this very list, so much so that Brooklyn Vegan, Stereogum and others repost it yearly. This year is no exception. 2KIL0DGE12.

“NO LOVE” VID PREMIERES TO ~ZEBRA~FANS~ WORLDWIDE

The Cannon Brothers directed video for Hooray for Earth’s “No Love”, how do you say… leaked?… this morning. It’s traveled far and wide by now, but as far as we know Pitchfork was on it first. The video features Jessica Zambri as a demure, guarded l’il lady in a zebra mask, and Noel as a van-washing boy who loves the masked lady. Head basically anywhere to gaze upon this one. It sure is cheeky.

SSION én MEXICO

This past weekend Cody and the troupe de SSION made the voyage Southward to Monterrey, Nuevo León. Si, México, mis palomitas. Boy, what a trip it was. Noise Music Festival is quite a deep thing, as there are not shit-many festivals with international acts in the country as a whole.

Video is slowly leaking in and it seems that the aforementioned factoid is demonstrated. Huge, enthusiastic crowds decorated the valley between two dramatic mountain ranges. Throngs of jovenes yawped along with Cody as he auditioned the classics. They knew the damned words. When he crowd surfed he was thrown up and down to the point where I was certain he’d be yakking. Yet another validating and amazing trip. It’s you all that he does it for, that we do it for, that make it all worthwhile. Keep it bueno, mis bambinos.

TODAY WE LOST AN ANGEL

I occupy no delusional headspace about just how much lament and reverence and celebration will flood the internet today. That I can contribute a tiny ode is my sincere hope.

Today at 1:30PM, Levon Helm lost his protracted battle with throat cancer. He, and The Band as a whole, have been the source of my greatest musical deliverances and transcendences. A music that inexplicably is unrivaled in its simplicity and honesty. Never before has there existed a band with so many peers that was, in essence, so completely peerless. The first tears of joy I ever shed for a song were spilled when I saw footage of the way that Levon came in on “Up on Cripple Creek”. Early live videos of The Band performing that song are truly devastating.

I suppose this is the moment where I realize that, akin to when I try to make sense of the feelings I get when I hear Astral Weeks, I cannot do much eulogy-wise that I feel worthy of Levon or his spirit. I choke up. I suggest, friends, lovers of music and livers of life, that you all burn one. Burn one and crack a few ice cold beers with those you hold dear. Turn on “Whispering Pines” and go quiet. Don’t think too hard on it, “Rockin’ Chair” is just a few minutes down the road. I know where you’re sitting, Levon. I see you, old buddy.
